International Student Friendship Program
Student Guidelines

The International Student Friendship Program (ISFP) has been established to assist you in your transition to University life. The following
guidelines have been made to ensure students get the most out of the program and ensure their safety and security.

We ask that you agree to:

  * Meet regularly with your volunteer, we recommend two hours per week
  * Respond promptly to your volunteer when he/she contacts you and
    keep arrangements to meet. It is ok if you are unable to accept an
    invitation but it is important to make this clear to your
    volunteer and to make alternative arrangements;
  * Always respect the culture and beliefs of your volunteer. Expect
    and accept that there will be some cultural differences between
    you and your volunteer. Try exploring these differences with your
    volunteer as a way of learning about each other and broadening the
    cross-cultural experience;
  * Please don’t ask your volunteer for money;
  * Be mindful that whilst your volunteer is there to assist you to
    transition to university life, he/she is not a trained student
    counsellor. If you require assistance with a serious personal or
    academic issue there are staff at Monash University who are
    trained to assist you with such issues;
  * Not engage in any inappropriate or illegal activity with your
    volunteer;
  * Let the ISFP Coordinator know if you are having any problems with
    your volunteer, if you are no longer interested in being in the
    program or if you have changed your contact details; and
  * Have fun and enjoy yourself.

I would like to be to be introduced to a volunteer/ family through the Monash University International Student Friendship Program (ISFP). I
understand that this program introduces volunteers and students solely for the purpose of developing cross-cultural friendships. I will respect the culture, religion, beliefs and customs of my volunteer. I have read the above guidelines for Students and understand and agree to the responsibilities for Students as outlined therein.
